Geomantic Sigils for Spellcraft & Charm-making Course Series

$125.00

A three-part course series exploring the spellcrafts of working with characters, sigils, and glyphs to harness the virtues and direct the spirits of geomancy; examining cunning means to draught, impress, carve, seal, and mark elemental forces, affect planetary remediations, and implement a range of practical geomantic magics. The three 90-minute class recordings that make up this series are supported with documents including full scans of early modern geomancy handbooks, a bibliography for further study, and a full list of further course recordings available from Dr Cummins upon request.

'Betwixt images and characters', as Agrippa puts it, stand the Sixteen Figures of geomancy. Part representative image - as in, for example, the Jawbone of Laetitia or the Sword of Puer - and part fundamental irreducible markings containing and bestowing geomantic, planetary, and elemental virtue, the Figures are used as the basis for constructing geomantic sigils. The dotted forms of their theoretical alchemy are joined to form glyphs of directed potency.

We find such geomantic sigils throughout the corpus of Western magical texts and techniques - most typically in the various iterations of so-called Solomonic pentacles, but also in a variety of other lamens, seals, and signs. In this course series we examine such historical uses of geomantic magic in wider talismanic arts, and by extension deepen the manners in which our geomancy can inform and be informed by our broader magical practices.

We also learn eminently practical means of employing the geomantic sigils in our own spell-craft for empowering illuminations, suffumigations, washes, charms, and more. Finally, we explore the possibilities extended in creating new sigils for our own specific purposes, marrying both the pre-modern conception of sigil as particular encoded astrological construct to its post-Sparean chaos magic do-it-yourself approach.

The three class recordings of this course series break down as follows:

Session 1: Sigils
In which are introduced key underlying occult mechanics of geomantic characters and sigils, before discussing wider applications of such principles in geomantically-supported planetary magic and wider talismanic constructions. Preparations and considerations of inks and ritual draughting tools are made. Particular attention is paid to the use and function of geomantic sigils in Solomonic pentacles.

Session 2: Semeiotics
In which we deepen our analyses of the fundamentals and experimental implications of the range of sympathetic arts referred to as image magic. We discuss figural pictography in geomantic sigilwork and framing sorcerously operative characteres, with particular reference to guidelines for designing and consecrating one’s own pentacles – complete with versicles, suffumigation material, etc – from the Fourth Book of Occult Philosophy.

Session 3:Spellcraft
In which we roundup with a detailed examination of the tools of the sigilating arts – considering pigments, quills, parchments, and penknives – before exploring various grimoiric means of crafting and sanctifying such ritual implements. We also discuss planetary spiritwork and talisman-craft, examining sigil-work in geomantic figural workings, candle bowl spells, and even offerings and empowerments.
