The ritual of divination is far more than simply knowledge-at-a-distance, far more even than the blossoming of understanding at the compass-rose of orientation and awareness. While certainly it maps the whorling coherences and incoherences of influences around a person, event, place, situation, or interrelation, really good divination should also seek to chart and help navigate those influences, inertias, possibilities, blessings, and cautions

This navigation - an endeavour of securing fortune and avoiding misfortune - is exponentially benefited by works of remediation and amelioration. Rather than simply fatalistically laying one's fortune before one, much more effective is the process of reading on what actions, observations, rituals, and tools - both arcane and mundane - can be utilised to best achieve one's goals. Once more, the elemental basis of geomancy can be more fully operationalised through humoural theory. Such applications widen the scope of treatments, solutions, and assistances that the wise diviner can apply to ritually proscribed and prescribed diet, sleep, exercise, particular colours, and scents, as well as patterns of sociability, frequented locations, and many many other behaviours, materials, and mindsets.

In the four class recordings of this course, we delve into the solutions for remediation that the Sixteen Figures of geomancy can offer in readings of remediation. How Puer can encourage not only fiery Martial candle-work but also weight-lifting and martial arts training. How Puella can speak not only of the power of sorcerous Venusian oils and perfumery or the artisanship of traditionally "women's crafts", but of throwing a really great party every now and again in order to resolve a difficulty. How Carcer can recommend lining black salt to firm up one's boundaries, Saturnine virtues imbued into one's magic circles, or indeed simply a rigorous therapeutic regimen of solitary discipline and application.

The course includes access to scans of primary source texts of sixteenth- and seventeenth-century geomancy, along with reading notes and further bibliography, for all inquiring students. All of these resources are of course additional support, as the Good Doctor covers everything necessary during the course proper.

The On Remediation course series breaks down into the following sessions:

Session 1: Introduction & the Fiery Figures
In which we introduce some vital concepts and contexts for understanding the spiritwork and spellcraft of sorcerous remediation via divinatory diagnostics, prognostics, and analysis. Here we will consider some of the problems as well as solutions in approaching remediating the situations that we read on in divination, as well as touch on managing and manipulating the ‘Non-Natural’ Principles underlying circumstances to our advantage. We also explore the Fiery figures for their unique medicines and mysteries: Puer as Boy and Young Warrior; Fortuna Major as both Victor and the Enduring One; Acquisitio as both the Banker and the Teacher; and Cauda Draconis as both the Ending and A (Potentially Helpful) Violence.

Session 2: Shields & the Airy Figures
In which we assess the significant hows and whys of setting a geomantic shield chart, as well as demonstrate and investigate some examples – both good and bad! – of how to phrase our questions and how to best navigate and assess the various purviews of prediction and effect across the Twelve Houses of a shield chart. In considering how to best phrase and set our queries we may maximise our clarity and eventual success of our sorcerous remediation work, as well as consider the wider, deeper and more pragmatic occult philosophical implications and applications of Air. We also explore the Airy figures for their unique blessings and strategies: Albus as Researcher and Peace-maker; Fortuna Minor as both the Moocher and the Lucky Devil; Tristitia as both Poet and Necromancer; and Puella as both Craftswoman and the Queen of Parties.

Session 3: implementation & the Watery Figures
In which we consider working approaches to designing remediation: from what possibilities to measure and assess to what particularities to implement and bolster. In the course of considering best spiritworking practices to implement and deploy sorcerous remediations based in geomantic divinatory assessment of conditions and possible solutions, we will also celebrate the importance of conjuration. We also explore the Watery figures for their unique virtues and spirits: Populus as both The City and the Small Town; Via as both River and Mirror; Rubeus as both Bloodshed and Poisoner; and Laetitia as the Epicurean and the Good Friend.

Session 4: Experiments & the Earthy Figures
In which we conclude this course by overviewing these approaches to operative and especially elemental sorcerous remediation via divination: assessing best practices for reading, interpreting, and implementing strategies for avoiding or working through obstacles and for securing blessings. We examine figural actions as well as effects, dirt sorcery, as well as spend particular time on various operations of talisman-creation. We also explore the Earthy figures for their unique gifts and warnings: Carcer as both the Jailer and the Magic Circle; Conjunctio as both the Dealer and the Secret Doorman; Amissio as both the Mourner and the Sex Worker; and Capur Draconis as both the Gardener and the Tree.
