Hello there. I get asked pretty often by folks interested in geomancy where I recommend they start or go next. So this is a post compiling some resources and recommendations for the geomantically-inclined; offering a bit of a current rundown of my classes and courses, as well as freely available podcasts, interviews, recordings, and whatnot.
Free Classes and Lovely Podcast Chats
Firstly, I have quite a bit of material on the YouTubes you can get at for free. In terms of introductions to geomancy, there's this 90minute introductory lecture which was recorded for the Witch House in Salem. It is always great to teach about early modern magic in an early modern building! You can also check out presentations I’ve given on geomantic divination and sorcery for the Magic & Ecology conference (here) and a rundown of my geomantic work with the Angelical language called Enochian (here).
I’ve also had some cracking chats with various podcast hosts about all things geomancy.
Douglas of What Magic Is This? dedicated a whole episode to discussing this noble art with me, which you can listen to here.
I spoke with Chaweon of Witches & Wine about geomancy and astrological magic (here).
I chatted to Astrid of The Spiritual Alchemy Show (here).
I discussed saints, spirits, and geomancy with Andrew of The Hermit’s Lamp (here)
I talked about Renaissance magics of geomancy (and also cartomancy!) with Brian on The Occulture Podcast (here)
I’ve been fortunate enough to appear a couple times on Glitch Bottle to discuss divination and spirits (here) and Enochian geomancy (here) with Alexander.
Recommended Reading
If you’re looking for some reading lists to sink your teeth into, I have a blogpost recommending modern geomantic manuals (here), and another on early modern handbooks of the art, complete with free downloads of those scans (here).
I can also heartily recommend you check out my newest book, Nazarth: Pillars of Gladness, which presents nineteen Enochian calls for working the sixteen figures of geomancy for divination, spellcraft, and spiritwork. You can watch a review of Nazarth by Foolish Fish (here) and read a review from Paralibrum (here).
Class & Course Recordings: Just Starting Out
If you’re looking for some class recordings to get you into what geomancy is about, I have a couple of options for you. You can purchase my introductory class, Rediscovering Geomancy, to get you started with a lecture bundled with scans of early modern sources and supporting materials.
But for anyone wanting to actually practice geomancy I recommend you check out my Geomancy Foundation course. Clocking in at over ten hours of training, this course takes students through the Sixteen Figures; the Twelve Houses; how to frame queries and analyse a shield chart; and much more. It is very much my best course for starting out with geomantic divination and sorcery.
I would also recommend folks who might know their geomantic figures but would like to deepen their understanding of how the figures speak in the places of the shield chart – and, in general, sharpen their interpretive geomantic skills – to look at my Houses of the Earth course which presents three sessions on how to query, analyse, and even remediate situations according to traditional geomancers’ use of those Twelve Houses.
Class & Course Recordings: I’ve Got the Basics Down, Where Next?
Once you’re familiar with the fundamentals, we can go a number of places!
I have three class-bundles on working with various sorts of materia magica in your geomantic divination and magic. Class-bundles are self-contained modules consisting of a lecture recording (usually 90-120 mins), the illustrated slide deck, primary source scans, extended bibliographies and recommended reading lists. The three geomantic class-bundles in question are:
Geomancy for Plant Magic offers discussion of how geomancers can divine from the grass-roots up, and presents sixteen distinct plant allies to assist in working with the virtues and spirits of the Sixteen Figures.
Geomancy for Crystal Magic offers some praise of the gnomic spirits who cohere around this art, as well as a geomantic lapidary of sixteen mineral allies which instantiate, cohere, and direct the virtues and vehemences of the Sixteen Figures.
Geomancy for Dirt Sorcery offers exploration of the aids to geomantic divination and sorcery that magically working with dirts, dusts, earths, and powders can empower, considering not just where to gather geomantic dirts but when, how, and why.
If you are interested in working geomancy to not only survey conditions, but actually to secure blessings and avoid maladies, you should have a peep at my course series, On Remediation in Geomantic Divination, Spiritwork & Spellcraft. This course offers four two-hour-long sessions teaching effective methods for using geomantic divination to strategise and implement sorcerous solutions for success.
I have found geomancy to be very effective at offering a variety of “early warning systems” to warn you of energetic intrusions, restless and disruptive spirits, and even magical attack. Those looking for training in how geomancy can help determine if something is haunted or if you are under crossed conditions should consider taking Shielding: Geomancy for Warding & Spiritual Self-Defence, while those looking to actually combat the effects of maleficia and magical attack should take Hexbreaking: Geomancy for Unbewitching & Counter-magic.
If you are specifically concerned with how geomancy can help you in your basic cleansings, uncrossings, and healing work, you should have a look at my Geomancy for Cleansing & Healing class-bundle, which deals with exactly this sort of thing: from different materia with which to clean off, to spiritual baths and washes, to amulets to pull disruptive or sickening influences and agents from the afflicted.
For a deep-dive into the draconic forces of creation and destruction in the cosmic dynamo of geomancy, The Dragon’s Head and The Dragon’s Tail, take a look at the three-part course series, Here Be Dragons: A Geomancy of Cauda & Caput Draconis.
Another approach to seeking further development once you have the basics down is to seek, maintain, and deepen relationships with tutelary spirits who can offer you bespoke guidance and empowerment in your geomancing. For help approaching this sort of work, check out An Angel, A Devil, & the Dead: Spiritwork with Patrons of Geomancy, a three-part course series examining how to work with angelic, devilish, and ancestral guides to the oracle.
If you are interested in how geomancy can assist you in deepening your work with your ancestors and with the local dead, or to approach dealing with restless ghosts and intrusive spirits, you should definitely go see my three-part course, The Earth Shall Hold Them Close: Geomancy for Working with Ancestors & the Dead. I’ve never encountered a client who couldn’t benefit from some form of work with their ancestors – from simply thanking them for their blessings to helping resolve deep-seated familial tensions and traumas. This course is designed to help folks navigate that sort of work with the dead, as well as have some tools for dealing with less friendly shades…
Speaking of necromantic geomancy, the Necromancy for Geomancers class-bundle should be of interest to those interested in working with the dead in order to deepen their geomancy.
Class & Course Recordings: Tell Me About The Sorcery
For folks looking for more training specifically on geomantic magic, spiritwork, and spellcraft, you also have a couple of options.
You can dip a toe in my class-bundle aptly titled Intro to Geomantic Spellcraft, which presents an introductory lecture recording on using this system of divination for operative magical workings with the spirits and energies of the Sixteen Figures.
But if you are especially interested in how to work with the Sixteen Figures in actual magical workings, you should take a look at my five-part course series, Sixteen Spells of Geomantic Sorcery. This course gets very in-depth with the planetary and elemental as well as geomantic spiritwork and conjuring of materia that go into my figural sorcery and wider geomantic magic. This course also comes with a free hour of one-to-one coaching with me, so we can go over your specific questions about the material and its applications in your own practice.
Anyone looking to deepen their geomantic practice with plant magic should consider taking my four-part course series, A Garden of the Gnomes: A Herbal of Geomantic Spellcraft, which presents and analyses forty-eight different herbs, trees, and flora for working even more potent geomantic magic.
Likewise, those looking for ways of incorporating geomantic divination and magic into work with crystals, minerals, and rocks as well as dusts, sands, and powders, should check out my four-part course series, A Lapidary of the Gnomes: Gems, Stones, & Dusts of Geomantic Spellcraft, which goes into thirty-two different stones and minerals that can be incorporated into sorcery with the Sixteen figures.
Completing the trilogy of Gnomes courses, A Bestiary of the Gnomes: An Animalia Heraldry of Geomantic Spellcraft is a similar four-part course series exploring the meanings and magics of animals in pre-modern myth and medicine, natural magic, and emblematic virtue for some manners to incoporate animalia components and spirit-work into your geomancy.
Those looking for training in how to work with the geomantic ‘characters’ or sigils reported by Agrippa, Heydon, and others, should consider taking my three-part course series, Geomantic Sigils for Spellcraft & Charm-making .
For folks who enjoy some planetary magic support for their geomantic sorcery, you may be very interested in my class-bundle Catching Hands: Gestural Magic for Planetary Sorcery, which presents the theory and application of the geomantic “gang-signs” or salutes which honour, cohere, and direct geomantic influences and spirits.
